Hip-hop in Istanbul / Turkey is rising. So is it, that hundreds of hip hop groups are made up all over Turkey. Barikat whose 2. album 'AIR, WATER, SOIL AND FIRE' was released by Emi Music, plays a big role in this hiphop rising and is one of the most important groups, making their voices heard all over Turkey. The group, which was formed 1996, has given hundreds of concerts and so met hundred thousands of people, forming their audience. Barikat, which is nearly loved by music critics is declared undiscribeable good and shown as the best turkish hip hop rap group. So it is a music revolution. It's a brand new hope, brand new colour, brand new voice for a universal world without discrimination but with peace and freedom. Mirrors the life and brings together the winning and loosing, the resistance and surrender, the hope and exhaustion and the happiness and anger. This ironic crying out is underlined with the cover graffiti of the anarchist writer Bansky. The lyrics by JonTürk from Barikat aim, from the conservative raider politicians, up to the famous names of the magazine world. Barikat also has sometimes used türkish ethnic instuments, but no somples, so it is a great LP with a back ground full of opposing lyrics and a huge artistic dimension. It's an album that you should listen to if you are curious about the opposing voice of turkish rap.
